Why You Should Read The Bible - Part 3
3. Read it because – GOD IS FOUND THERE
Have you ever questioned if God is real, only to consult your Google search engine for the answer? If you have - you wouldn't be alone.
In our modern world, it is tempting to go to 'google' before anything or anyone else. The problem is, google - is - not - God! Why are you looking to FIND God in a place where God never told you to look for Him?
Luke 24:1-7 tells a story of a some women who go looking for the dead body of Jesus (after His crucifixion). They have prepared spices to anoint His body, but when they arrive at the tomb - they are completely dumbfounded because the body of Jesus is NOT there any longer.
"But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.
The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.” (Emphasis added).
God doesn't promise us that we will find Him in most of the places we go to search for Him.
We seek the opinions of celebrities, athletes, university professors, online discussion forums - and then act surprised when these opinions are so absent of God. When we search for God in places that we think make sense, we do the very same thing that these women disciples did. We fail to hear God's prophetic voice and we chase after our limited earthly understanding.
The Bible says that Jesus is not only found in the Word of God. Jesus actually IS the living word of God! ( John 1:1-14, John6:35, John 14:6) He is THERE, you will find Him there! It is a promise!
God promises us that when we search Him earnestly, we will find Him.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” –Jeremiah 29:13
“Come near to God and He will come near to you.” – James 4:8
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them.”
– Is 55:6-7
Proverbs 25:2 says, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings."
Searching for God is not reserved for the faint of heart - it is an act of kings and queens. In Christ, this is just who you are, you are royalty! Search for Him with all your noble heart - you will find Him! Take some time now.
